Concept Design
The New Zealand Alpine Ski Team needed a completely new competition and training uniform for the 43rd FIS Alpine World Ski Championships to be held at Vail - Beaver Creek in the USA early in 2015. One Studio presented Snow Sports New Zealand and the team with a collection of technical performance garments designed incorporating a uniquely New Zealand design.
GARMENTS:
1. Team Jacket: A technical weather proof insulated jacket with hood.
2. Training jacket: a wind and water proof stretch soft-shell fitted jacket.
3. Team pant: A technical weather proof insulated pant with full side zips.
4. Training shorts: A close fitting wind and water proof stretch soft-shell short.
5. Ski race suits: Speed and Tech racing suits for all Alpine racing disciplines.
GARMENT DESIGN: For this project we developed the design concept and initial look and feel along with fabric and colour selection to present to the client. Once the group had worked through these initial ideas we started stage 2 and completed technical specifications and CAD drawings ready for our sample production team to develop patterns, fit, final spec sheets and produce the prototype sample garments.
MATERIALS & FIT: For a National ski team heading to a World Championships we wanted to deliver premium quality garments using the best materials we could find; The exterior fabrics were chosen for their performance, stretch, breathability and weather proof properties. A combination of Dermizax and Dermizax EV from Toray Japan was used for the team jacket and pants.
GARMENT FIT & MAKE: The prototype sample garment specifications are then passed into our workroom and each initial pattern is developed and the first sample garment was produced. Once the fit and specification was approved for each sample garment our custom production process starts. All team staff and athletes were measured individually and all the measurements were input into the One Studio custom build system to provide the guidelines for each garment's pattern and fit.
In our workroom each athlete and team members garments are individually cut and made to measure to ensure the ideal fit and performance. We then delivered the completed uniform to the team on time for the World Championships.
