Coaches are some of the hardest working guys on the mountain and this man is no exception. Nils has had to redefine what it means to be a coach. He’s forged alliances with funding entities, worked deals for his athletes, does duty as team manager, sports psychologist and fundraiser. He mentors and works with aspiring young ski racers in addition to his full time role as coach of elite national team athletes.

 

Nils inspires racers to be their best and inspires others to support ski racing, and in his home country that is no mean feat.

Favourite place to ski and why: “St. Anton, Austria. I spent 9 years living in St. Anton so I got to know the mountain and people really well. It sits on the highest part of the Arlberg and gets snow from every direction. The locals are excellent and the aprés skiing is the best in the world!"

 

Best single coaching experience: “That's a tough one, I've been coaching for over 25 years. Zali Steggall getting her first World Cup points by winning the 2nd run at the WC SL in St Anton. Annelise winning her first WC race in Hinterstoder, Austria."

 

What do you love about being a coach?: “Working with young people who are trying to be the very best they can possible be."
